What Makes Us Different
Although considered small by asset value, the Foundation’s focus on only two programs provides an opportunity to make a difference in Animal Protection and Texas History. Since the beginning, we have distributed over $27 million to more than 1,000 organizations.
Our philosophy is simple. Make grant distributions to organizations that make a measureable difference to animals and Texas history. In other words, our goal is to be proactive and attract the very best projects to support.
With seasoned program officers, who are personally engaged with a variety of organizations in the nonprofit sector, the Foundation provides technical assistance, counseling, and grant oversight to grantseekers.
Before reviewing a proposal, program directors engage prospective grantees in conversation concerning the project. If the project meets our expectations, we often conduct site visits to learn more about the impact of the program on both the organization and the community. During this phase, we attempt to be good listeners and learn about all aspects of the proposal.
Once the proposal is submitted, program directors are advocates for the project. Of course, the final authority is the Board of Directors who must act on each proposal.
Following the funding of a proposal, we provide assistance with reporting procedures and other means of evaluation.
We wish you every success with your proposals and pledge our commitment to excellence at The Summerlee Foundation.
