Texas Rangers c. 1880

THE SUMMERLEE FOUNDATION has funded a wide variety of Texas history programs in a multitude of disciplines, ranging from academic research to field archaeology, throughout every region of the state.

In accordance with Board policy, the Foundation does not fund:

¶ courthouse restoration
¶ planning and construction of monuments or memorials
¶ indirect costs to educational institutions.

THE SUMMERLEE FOUNDATION is a strong advocate of collaborative projects between historical organizations. With staff and financial constraints, it makes good sense for historical organizations to share resources to meet mutual objectives in such fields as interpretation, conservation, publications, oral histories, and school programs. In addition, we urge historical organizations to explore the benefits of merger. Should you have any questions about the Texas history program at the Foundation, do not hesitate to call or write the program officer. In fact, we strongly urge you to contact our office in advance of preparing a grant proposal. Let me conclude by commending grantseekers for your many achievements over the past few years. We take enormous pride in not only the professional advances in our disciplines, but the stellar projects, such as the recovery of the Le Belle from Matagorda Bay and the publication of the New Handbook of Texas, which stand as beacons to a brighter future.
